In this course you will learn about sediments, sedimentary deposits, and sedimentary rocks through reading, lectures, labs, and quizzes. You will investigate sedimentary rocks associated with ancient depositional systems and begin to understand how such systems form and operate, today and in the past.

This is a course about the climate crisis, how it is rooted in a separation of humans from nature, and how it could be taken on. In nine sessions, we explore human-induced climate change is approached from perspectives of the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. 

This course is an introduction into the basics of geology through a combination of lectures, quizzes and assignments. We will address topics ranging from understanding Earth's place in the Universe to exploring the interior of our planet, from mineral and rock identification to plate tectonics, from Earth history to traces of past life, and from deep time to today's global environmental changes from a geological perspective.


This course is part of the first year of the distance learning program in Geoscience offered by Stockholm University. It follows on from Tellus I - Geology.
